Qualification Description

Become a stonemason and create limestone, marble, and sandstone designs for residential and commercial projects. Acquire the skills necessary to build a career in one of the oldest and most esteemed construction trades.

SUITABILITY

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • Over the age of 18 years

  • Have completed TAE Institutes LLN entry assessment consistent with the TAE Institute’s LLN Policy

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • A reasonable level of strength and agility

  • An aptitude for working with your hands

  • The ability to provide your own PPE, such as work boots, gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses

  • A creative mind

Entry requirements

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

Non-apprenticeship

  • Non-apprenticeship pathways for trade-related qualifications allow you to have your industry skills assessed through recognition of prior learning (RPL) and undertake gap training to gain a trade qualification. To take this course as a non-apprenticeship, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age, as evidenced by photo identification

  • Have at least 2 years of work experience in this occupation or trade, as evidenced by employee records such as your resume and/or letters from your employers.

  • Be currently employed in the relevant industry, as evidenced by a letter from your employer.

  • This course may be offered as a fee for service.

PATHWAYS

Achieving success in this process means you’ll be able to obtain your qualification much faster, saving you time and effort.

Career pathways

Our graduates go onto roles like Stonemasons cut and shape hard and soft stone blocks and masonry slabs to construct and renovate stone structures and monumental masonry.

Other jobs include: stonemason, architectural stonemason, monumental stonemason, heritage stonemason and bench-top mason.

Licensing

Upon completion of this course, you’ll be eligible to apply to practise as a licensed stonemason. This is a requirement for employment in the industry. Visit NSW Fair Trading for licensing requirements and guidelines before you apply.

UNITS

To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in: 30 units of competency

    • 21 core units
    • 9 elective units

Completion requirements

You will need a general construction induction card ( white card ) before you can enter a construction site

  • CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
